Orthodontics at Any Age

A great smile with straight teeth, at any age, is not just about looks. Teeth that are crooked, crowded, or that stick out affect the way your teeth look and work and impact on your overall health. All of this is true whether you are 8 or 80! Which is why people of any age can benefit from, and should take advantage of, orthodontic treatment.
Adults

Did you know that one in three orthodontic patients is an adult? In other words, it’s never too late to enhance your smile and improve your bite; your orthodontist considers many variables when developing your customized treatment plan, but age is rarely a deciding factor!

Of course, while orthodontics for adults is almost as common, and just as effective, as orthodontics for kids and teens, there are some differences in treatment. The biggest being that adults are no longer growing, and their bone density has reached maturity. This means that adult treatment may take slightly longer than treatment for children/teens with a similar problem. An adult treatment plan also needs to account for things like fillings, missing teeth, misshapen or worn teeth, other dental disease, as well as medications, or habits like smoking, clenching, or grinding teeth. All of these can affect the outcome of treatment and inform the treatment plan, but as experts in the field, your Woodlawn Ortho team knows how to overcome all obstacles. We will work with your family dentist to coordinate care, and call in other dental specialists such as oral surgeons, periodontists and endodontists, where and when necessary.

No matter what your dental history, or what your future wishes for your teeth, Woodlawn Ortho will work with you to offer you an orthodontic solution that fits seamlessly with your work, lifestyle, and budget. Not only do our treatment options include a selection of esthetic options such as Invisalign® clear aligners or advanced ceramic clear braces, but we will design a treatment plan fully customized to meet your individual needs.

Whether you are choosing to straighten your teeth for health, personal or professional reasons, we are fully committed to helping you achieve the smile you want, for the future you dream of.

Kids & Teens
Your child’s teeth look perfectly straight to you, but your family dentist has recommended you see an orthodontic specialist… What’s that all about? Well, it’s not always easy to tell when your child may need braces or has an orthodontic problem. Even teeth that look straight may have an underlying hidden problem with the bite or the jaws. Signs that your child or teenager might require orthodontic treatment include things like: The good news is that, like everything else in life, orthodontic issues caught and treated early are far more easily managed and fixed! Early treatment takes advantage of growth and turns a potentially difficult issue into a more manageable one. Our Woodlawn Ortho team are experts in both the multitude of orthodontic treatment options available to kids and teens, as well as the specialized patient care required to make sure kids of all ages feel safe and welcome.

Braces

Why so much emphasis on a great smile with straight teeth? Because, while ALL smiles are admittedly beautiful, straight teeth or crooked, straight teeth can be an indicator of good health. Oral health plays an incredibly important role in overall health and well-being, and malocclusion, or misaligned teeth, can lead to dental issues, including things like tooth decay, gum disease, and difficult or painful chewing, all of which can impact heavily on your overall health.

Of course, not everyone is born with straight teeth. Which is where orthodontists come in. If your teeth are crooked, overcrowded, gappy, or show misalignment in your bite, we straighten things out! Healthy teeth, healthy life, happy smiles.

Types of Orthodontics Treaments Treated

Regular visits to your dentist – for cleaning, checkups, or help with dental complications such as cavities and gum disease – are commonplace. Everybody knows to schedule them… and keep them. However, not all dental issues were created equal and certain irregularities may require the specialized knowledge and expertise of an orthodontist.

At its simplest, orthodontics is the specialized field within dentistry that deals with the diagnosis, positioning, and correction of mispositioned or misaligned teeth. And while you may think this is just an issue of vanity, it is far more than just wanting a straight-toothed smile for Instagram.

Oral health is absolutely a window into your overall health. A good bite makes it easier for you to bite, chew and speak. Teeth that are misaligned are harder to clean and can cause abnormal wearing of tooth enamel which can lead to extensive and expensive dental procedures. In other words, orthodontic treatment helps ensure proper function of teeth, in so doing creating smiles that are more than just beautiful – they are healthy.

Types of Orthodontic Procedures

The main job of an orthodontist is to diagnose and treat dental malocclusions as well as other anomalies of the oral cavity which can impact negatively on your life and health. To do this, our team of Woodlawn orthodontic experts will design the best treatment plan for your particular issue, taking into account your lifestyle, and using the most appropriate appliances to realign your teeth and jaws to treat the alignment problems. Of course, for most people the word ‘orthodontist’ is synonymous with metal braces designed to straighten teeth. End of story. What most people don’t know, however, is that there are many other services we can provide to correct issues with teeth and jaws. What’s more, as experts in our field, at Woodlawn Ortho we are able to offer multiple options and types of braces to fix your particular dental issues, allowing us to create a solution that is effective, comfortable, and which fits with your lifestyle. Just a few of the dental appliances and services that we can provide include (but are not limited to): No matter what your particular orthodontic issue, working together with our Woodlawn Ortho team of experts, we can create an orthodontic treatment plan that fits your mouth and your life. The end result? Life-enhancing results that improve both function – better biting, chewing, speaking, and form – a smile worth smiling about.

Invisalign® offers a virtually invisible alternative to braces, and a fast, easy, and convenient option for teeth straightening. An extremely effective treatment for a great many people, and a pleasant alternative to braces, Invisalign® may be the perfect solution for you if your orthodontic issues are not too severe: it is an excellent option for those with common overbites or underbites, or gapped teeth.

Why Choose Invisalign®?

Not only is Invisalign® an invisible option over traditional braces, but treatment is also often 50% faster, can be done with fewer visits, and provides a wide variety of solutions for both simple and complex issues. Invisalign® is also a more comfortable and flexible option for optimal dental health: In short, Invisalign® is definitely a fix worth smiling about.

How Does Invisalign® Work?

Step 1: Once your Woodlawn Ortho team has assessed you to be a suitable candidate for Invisalign®, we make impressions of your teeth to create the clear aligners.
Step 2: We schedule and perform a comprehensive fitting session to ensure they are a good fit, making any tweaks as required to ensure optimal efficacy and comfort.
Step 3: We provide you with a comprehensive overview of how to wear your Invisalign® for best results. We recommend wearing them as often as possible to keep your treatment plan on track, with details on when to remove them (such as for eating and brushing and flossing your teeth).
Step 4: After the initial set of aligners is created and fitted, we then move on to creating a series of aligners, with the goal of moving your teeth into the correct position. Each set is ordinarily worn for about 2-3 weeks, with most people requiring between 15 to 30 sets.
Step 5: Throughout this process, our Woodlawn Ortho team will schedule you for regular in-person check-ups at the clinic – about six weeks apart – to ensure your teeth are moving into alignment as planned. Overall treatment time is typically between 10 to 15 months, depending on your situation.
Step 6: Once treatment is complete, we reassess and look for any anomalies, as well as recommend a retainer when necessary to maintain your new, straight smile.

Am I a Candiadate for Invisalign®?

Invisalign® is primarily used for cosmetic purposes where the malocclusion is not too severe. Age is also sometimes a factor in whether Invisalign® treatment options are available: younger patients’ teeth are still changing and may need a more advanced procedure to ensure long-term correction. As an authorized Invisalign® provider, Woodlawn Ortho has the expertise to assess if you are a candidate for this treatment option, and then fit you quickly and easily with this virtually invisible and faster way to straighten your teeth. While not all customers are candidates for Invisalign®, you very well may be! Book a no-obligation consultation today to see if Invisalign® is the right fit and fix for your smile.
