Did you know that one in three orthodontic patients is an adult? In other words, it’s never too late to enhance your smile and improve your bite; your orthodontist considers many variables when developing your customized treatment plan, but age is rarely a deciding factor!
Of course, while orthodontics for adults is almost as common, and just as effective, as orthodontics for kids and teens, there are some differences in treatment. The biggest being that adults are no longer growing, and their bone density has reached maturity. This means that adult treatment may take slightly longer than treatment for children/teens with a similar problem. An adult treatment plan also needs to account for things like fillings, missing teeth, misshapen or worn teeth, other dental disease, as well as medications, or habits like smoking, clenching, or grinding teeth. All of these can affect the outcome of treatment and inform the treatment plan, but as experts in the field, your Woodlawn Ortho team knows how to overcome all obstacles. We will work with your family dentist to coordinate care, and call in other dental specialists such as oral surgeons, periodontists and endodontists, where and when necessary.

How Does Invisalign® Work?
Step 2: We schedule and perform a comprehensive fitting session to ensure they are a good fit, making any tweaks as required to ensure optimal efficacy and comfort.
Step 3: We provide you with a comprehensive overview of how to wear your Invisalign® for best results. We recommend wearing them as often as possible to keep your treatment plan on track, with details on when to remove them (such as for eating and brushing and flossing your teeth).
Step 4: After the initial set of aligners is created and fitted, we then move on to creating a series of aligners, with the goal of moving your teeth into the correct position. Each set is ordinarily worn for about 2-3 weeks, with most people requiring between 15 to 30 sets.
Step 5: Throughout this process, our Woodlawn Ortho team will schedule you for regular in-person check-ups at the clinic – about six weeks apart – to ensure your teeth are moving into alignment as planned. Overall treatment time is typically between 10 to 15 months, depending on your situation.
Step 6: Once treatment is complete, we reassess and look for any anomalies, as well as recommend a retainer when necessary to maintain your new, straight smile.
